Biography
Kate Carey is an artist who left her Bowery studio in 2005 and ended up with a studio in Yarmouth, Maine. In addition to being a painter and sculptor, Kate has worked as an electrician, a lighting designer for theater, has developed real estate and as such has worked extensively on building design and construction, both hands-on and planning. For a several years she worked at the New York Times leading a creative team of graphic and advertorial writers to design and produce special advertising sections. She finds creative collaboration rewarding.

She has recently completed several large commissions through EmilyFineArt for The Toll Brothers in Brooklyn at their Pierhouse Project as well as a series of 40 painting called Ghosts of Old New York for 400 Park Avenue South, designed by the Architect Christian de Portzamparc. Her paintings and sculptures have been exhibited throughout the US and Europe and she is included in numerous private and corporate collections. An original member of Rough-House 13 — a group of artists known for their guerrilla exhibit tactics, her work spans 2 dimensions to out-door-installations, such as Site-Specific Vinalhaven, curated by Pat Nick, Vinalhaven Press and juried by Holly Block, Bronx Museum.
Kate is represented by Emily Santangelo, EmilyFineArt and is scheduled to have an exhibit in 2017 at Heather Gaudio Fine Art in New Canaan, CT.
Statement
"I work with any material; incorporating new challenges interests me. Recently I have been using oils, glazes and the occasional acrylic. I allow color and texture to direct the action to a great extent; the possibility of failure does not make me too uncomfortable. I don't believe that a painting can be successful without that element of risk. I most enjoy the tension between the bold moves and the tenuous shot at creating a successful piece of work." - Kate Carey, 2015
